I'm a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. When I started there, our sports teams were known as the Hurons. During my time there, the President bowed to the politically correct pressures and renamed the teams the Eagles (what a god awfully boring name, IMO). Even after pleas from various student groups and the Huron tribe itself, the Huron name was gone from EMU. This is my attempt at a Huron. It is based on a picture from the Osprey French and Indian War book. The figure itself is the Dog Soldier Pawnee figure repainted. The musket is from the GI Joe Minuteman repainted. The Tomahawk is the same. The necklace is the Pawnee necklace with a few of the teeth removed. The knife is the Dog Soldiers knife with the sheath made from the scraps after I made the leggings. The Leggings are from the Dog Soldier after they were cut down and made to look like Leggings. Enjoy.![]()

The Huron primarily resided in an area of central Ontario between Georgian Bay and Lake Semcoe. They were dispersed by the Iroquois in 1650. Part of the tribe went to northern Quebec where they stayed. The other part of the tribe roamed Wisconsin, Minnesota and Upper Michigan. By 1701, they relocated to the Ohio Valley between Detroit and Cleveland where they were known as the Wyandot. In the mid 1800's, they were relocated to Kansas. After a while, part of the tribe stayed there, and the other part moved to Oklahoma. The called themselves the Wendat. They were called Hurons by the French. This was a derogatory term derived from "hure" which meant rough or ruffian. They remained known as the Huron by the French and Wyandottes by the Americans and English. At one point they numbered 40,000. Their numbers dwindled to 300 after dispersal by the Iroquois. They are now in the 4000 (or so).
