Ypsilanti, Michigan
This is Ypsilanti, Michigan, where I am currently living. I've lived here since 1987, when I was a freshman at Eastern Michigan University. It is a nice little blue collar town about 10 miles east of Ann Arbor. It has approximately 20,000 people. The town was founded in 1823.This is the infamous Ypsilanti water tower. As you can see, it has a very distinctive shape. It was built in 1890 at a cost of $21,000.
There are a number of rumors surrounding it....
One is that Paul Bunyan is buried there, and they didn't quite get all of him. The other is that if a virgin ever graduated from Eastern, it will collapse.
Ypislanti is named for the Greek Patriot General Demetrius Ypsilanti. In the struggle of the Greek people against Turkish tyranny appeared an outstanding heroic figure, Demetrius Ypsilanti. With three hundred men he held the Citadel of Argos for three days, against an army of thirty thousand. Having exhausted his provisions, he escaped one night beyond the enemy lines, with his entire command, having lost not a single man.
This is Goddard Hall, where I spent a good deal of my time at Eastern. At the time I was going, it was the Honors Dorm. I lived here for 3 years. Underneath was the Computer Lab, where I worked for a year and met a few of my friends.
This is Sherzer Hall, on top is an observatory. It was originally built in 1878. In 1989, there was a fire that destroyed a good chunk of it. Two years later it was rebuilt.
This is Pease Hall. There are many concerts that are held here. Return to my background.
